Black hair is never just a coat of black paint. For different tones try changing the base and highlight color.

Step 1: Base

Airbrush and even coat of dark purple

Step 2: Overall Color

First shade with clear black and then airbrush an even coat all over.

Step 3: Highlight

On a low psi spray on highlighted areas with Mr. Crystal Color Sapphire Blue. Or dilute the shimmer with clear gloss if you don’t have a light hand.
